A mostly astronomically accurate render of Mars and its moon Phobos.
Raw textured models of Mars and its moon Phobos, scanned from satellite imagery, are available on NASA's website. I upscaled the textures of these downloaded models using Topaz, and subsequently generated compatible 'fake' normal maps and ambient occlusion maps. I covered the visible texture seams using texture paint and the clone tool, and corrected the erroneous edges of the NASA models. For the color grading of Mars, rather than aiming for strict realism, I utilized the artistic red tones preferred by NASA.
I rendered it in Blender using Cycles.
You can examine the web-compatible interactive version of the Mars model below. Due to the limitations of 3D rendering in browsers, there are minor differences between the render and the interactive model. 3D model is disabled on mobile browsers.
